This innings was Saeed Anwar’s best performance against Australia. He made 119 runs on 174 balls in the second innings of 1^st test in Australia with the help of 20 boundaries. With help of this innings Pakistan avoid the innings defeat in the first match of the tour in the series of 1999 after world Cup.

176 runs in Oval was Saeed Anwar best against England in England. He made 176 runs on 264 balls with help of 26 boundaries. In 1996 tour of England, this innings helped to win a opening test match of a series that is important for tours point of view.

In international cricket in those days in his opinion Courtney Walsh, Curtly Ambrose, Allan Donald and Glen McGrath are the difficult bowlers to face. He said, he like batting at home but also feel good when he is batting in India and Australia. He said Pakistan lacking fitness if we compare them with other teams around the world but we are working on it and in near future it will be all right.

He said his goals are to win 1999 World Cup and beat South Africa in South Africa and always try to be positive and did not afraid of failure or never think of it. For youngsters three D’s are most important those three D’s are Dedication, Devotion and Determination. He said after retirement he will not be involved in cricket and he like playing both formats equally. He said, I personally like the batting of Brian Lara and he prefers the tours of Australia and South Africa because in these countries people are most aware and keen followers of cricket. He said Imran Khan was the major force that drive his carrier infect whole Pakistani Cricket team and his favorite shot is cut shot. He says his first priority is to play for Pakistan.

On sportsman ship he thinks Donald and Walsh are the good bowlers who avoid sledging while playing. He said the most disappointing moment in his carrier was not winning the 1996 world cup despite having a great team. He said Pakistan and India should play test matches on reciprocal basis like five in India and Five in Pakistan. He think separates teams for test and ODIs is not a good idea because in that some time team is inconsistent. He said his cricket is best in Sharjah because luck favors him and on the question on Hasan Raza he said he have a good talent but he need to work on his technique in order to become a good player and be successful in international level. Wisdom nominated Saeed Anwar cricketer of the year in 1997. Thus make him the 11th Pakistani cricketer who receives this honour. Before him the Pakistani cricketers who receives this honour was included Fazal Mahmood (1955), Mushtaq Mohammad (1963), Asif Iqbal & Hanif Mohammad (1968), Zaheer Abbas (1972), Javed Miandad (1982), Imran Khan (1983), Saleem Malik (1988), Waqar Younis (1992), Wasim Akram (1993) and only Pakistani two cricketers receives this honour after Saeed Anwar that include Saqlain Mushtaq (2000) and Mohammad Yousaf (2007). To this day total no. of Pakistani cricketers who were nominated for wisdom cricketer of the year is 13^th.

Saeed Anwar was selected for this award largely because of his world record of highest individual score in an innings in One Day Internationals along with his other best innings in Tests. At that period of time he also almost equals the highest no. of ODIs centuries with Sachin Tendulkar.

In 2001 his daughter was died after suffering long illness. This tragedy turns his life completely and he move towards religion. After that he never looks back and involve totally in religion. He takes part in the preaching of Islam and travelled across Pakistan with the tablighi jamaat. After turns to religion he continues to play cricket and in 2003 world cup was the most consistent batsman of Pakistan.   He retired from International cricket in 2003 when Pakistan cricket board did not selected him for the ODI series in Sharjah.  After that he completely left cricket and more involve in religious affairs.

He consistently tours with the other members of tablighi jamaats across Pakistan to teach and spread out the message of God in the shape of Islam. In this transition of his life some other people’s like Junaid Jamshed very much helped him to transform his glamour’s life to a religious person. He is not the only one who turns towards Islam but he also takes other with him as well that include Inzamam Ul Haq and Mushtaq Ahmed.

In this innings Tendulkar made world record of highest individual score in an innings by beating previous world record of Saeed Anwar’s 194 runs. This is the best innings of his life in One Day Internationals and only doubly century in the history of ODIs. After this double century he is the only international player who made double centuries in both formats of the International cricket.
